The EMCOP Coordinator:
- Reports directly to the Director of Emergency Management.
- Remains on Permanent Alert to monitor actual and potential
threats.
- Evaluates threats to determine if and when they should
be escalated to an emergency by:
- Consulting with the Core Committee
- Obtaining interpretation of forecast and hazard reports
from:
- National Hurricane Center
- Dade County Office of Emergency Management
- Subject Matter Experts, County agencies, DERM, Health
Dept., etc.
- Notifies the DEM or designee of potential threats, and
as appropriate:
- Places Core Committee on alert through phases of occurrence.
- Establishes / Confirms schedules of EMG & Core Committee
conference calls: Provides contact information and procedures.
- Provides periodic briefing reports to DEM as scheduled.
- Based on Core Committee recommendations and continuing
evaluation of conditions:
- Recommends full or partial activation of EMCOP
- As appropriate, recommends changes to work schedule,
cancellation of classes, and campus events
- Recommends time at which University should close
- Recommends time when notification should be provided
to University community
- Advises regarding specific issues that should be addressed
in press releases
- If EMCOP is activated:
- Notifies Core Committee
- Notifies Emergency Management Group (EMG) to activate
their Department and Functional Unit Plans.
- Notifies Special Assignment Group (SAG)
The Core Committee maintains direct communication capabilities
among members 24/7
